The SmartBus data flow provided seamless migration path from existing analog radio to new digital radio through development of control interfaces between existing computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and new CAD system.

In addition to the onboard vehicle equipment and user workstations, SmartBus Implementation involved deployment of ten new server applications and development of interfaces with seven existing legacy systems, as well as WiFi infrastructure, network upgrades and network controllers at seventeen garages.

The SmartBus architecture provided seamless interoperability between analog radio, digital radio and cellular voice communications, with any number of buses operating in any of the three modes simultaneously during the transition period.

The SmartBus Program Plan was coordinated with new bus deliveries and a planned upgrade to digital radio system-wide.  Additional projects were added to the program as management began to leverage the new capabilities to acheive improvements to operations and customer service.
